Back online: the all-clear and status updates

During long outages later tiers keep people posted; the moment you are back, everyone who was alerted gets the all-clear automatically.

During a prolonged outage, the later follow-ups keep your contacts posted on their own schedules; nobody is left wondering whether the earlier alert still stands.

Recovery ends the story cleanly. The all-clear is sent automatically when any of these happens:

  • Your device checks in again (the normal case).
  • You click the I'm-online link from the check-in email.
  • You press Stand down in the settings app.

Only contacts who were actually alerted during the outage receive the all-clear; if the outage resolved during your check-in window, nobody was contacted and nothing is sent. The all-clear has no buttons and asks nothing of anyone: “good news, resolved, no further updates for this outage.”

You will also get a push notification summarizing what happened while you were dark: when the outage started, whether the check-in email went out, and whether contacts were alerted.
