Preventing false alerts

Sleep awareness, thresholds, online hours, and ghost mode each remove a class of false alarm; here is which to use when.

Each false-alarm class has a specific tool:

  • Sleeping laptop: keep “Ignore expected sleep” on (default). The agent announces sleep before it happens, and that silence is excused for up to 24 hours. Enable Prevent Sleep in the agent menu when you want the Mac awake while idle; note macOS still sleeps on lid close when on battery.
  • Short absences: raise your outage threshold. If contacts should only hear about multi-hour outages, set the threshold in hours.
  • Evenings and weekends: online hours, under Availability. Outside your windows, silence is expected and nobody is alerted.
  • Vacations and travel days: schedule them ahead as ghost mode time blocks under Scheduled time away in Availability, or switch on your region’s holiday calendar there; both behave exactly like ghost mode on the dates you pick.
  • Quiet days with no meetings: the meeting gate in Integrations, if your calendar reflects your commitments.

And remember the last line of defense is you: every outage starts with your check-in email and check-in window. One tap on “I'm online” and nobody else ever hears about it.
