Outage threshold and check interval

Your device checks in every 5 minutes; you choose how much silence counts as an outage, from 5 minutes to 24 hours.

Two numbers govern detection:

  • Check interval: the agent checks in every 5 minutes. This is fixed; it is the heartbeat of the whole system.
  • Outage threshold: how much silence counts as an outage. Default 12 minutes; adjustable from 5 minutes to 24 hours, in hours and minutes, at the top of Action Plan.

Choosing a threshold is a tradeoff you control. Short thresholds catch problems fast but treat every coffee run with a sleeping laptop as suspicious; sleep awareness absorbs most of that, but not all. Long thresholds are quiet but slow. If your contacts should only hear about outages measured in hours, set hours.

The threshold applies per device, and the timer resets on every successful check-in. Changes take effect from your device's next ping, within about 5 minutes.
